León Hosts MOSAIC Innova Final Event to Strengthen Europe's Deep-Tech Ecosystem
Our day by day / 15-10-2026
The ICAMCyL Foundation, in collaboration with the León Institute for Economic Development, Training and Employment (ILDEFE) and León City Council, is organising the final event of the European MOSAIC Innova project on 27 October, under the title Connecting the deep-tech ecosystem.
Connecting the deep-tech ecosystem.
The event will bring together SMEs, start-ups, technology centres and innovation stakeholders to explore new European funding opportunities, share experiences and establish connections that can facilitate the development and market uptake of innovative technologies.
The event will be held in a hybrid format at the Technology-Based Business Centre in León. A complementary activity will take place on 28 October and will include a visit to TECOI's facilities.
European funding and opportunities for innovative businesses
One of the main highlights of the event will be the opportunity to learn about the European instruments supporting innovation, particularly those aimed at SMEs and start-ups seeking to scale up their technologies.
The event will cover the EIC Accelerator, one of Europe's main funding instruments for businesses developing high-potential innovations. Under the 2026 programme, it offers grants of up to €2.5 million and equity investments of up to €10 million, subject to the applicable requirements and evaluation process.
The event will also explore the Plug-in Scheme, a mechanism that enables projects selected through certified national or regional programmes to move directly to the full proposal stage of the EIC Accelerator.
In addition to learning about these funding opportunities, participants will be able to hear from businesses and stakeholders that have already navigated this process and identify opportunities to advance their own projects.
A space to share experiences and foster collaboration
The event programme is structured around three main sessions:
- The European deep-tech ecosystem: an analysis of critical technologies, regional strengths and opportunities for collaboration between businesses and European regions, as well as recommendations for innovation policies.
- Success stories: a roundtable discussion to share experiences, lessons learnt and strategies for turning innovation support mechanisms into market opportunities.
- B2B forum and networking: a space for organisations to present their capabilities, explain what they need and what they can offer other stakeholders, and identify potential partners for future collaboration.
The B2B forum will give each organisation five minutes to present its activities, needs and contribution to the ecosystem.

MOSAIC Innova: connecting regional ecosystems to drive innovation
MOSAIC Innova is a European project working to strengthen innovation ecosystems focused on critical technologies and deep-tech across three regions with different levels of development: Castile and León (Spain), Saxony (Germany) and Yugozapaden (Bulgaria).
Coordinated by the ICAMCyL Foundation, the project has worked to bring SMEs and start-ups into these ecosystems, identify their R&D needs and uncover synergies between businesses and other innovation stakeholders.
It has also explored ways to facilitate these companies' access to European funding opportunities through acceleration mechanisms such as the Plug-in Scheme, with the aim of supporting the growth and scaling-up of their activities.
The final event will provide an opportunity to share the project's lessons learnt and strengthen connections between stakeholders who can help turn Europe's technological capabilities into new business opportunities.
Technical visit to TECOI: technology and innovation for a just transition
As a complementary activity, a visit to TECOI's facilities in Sahelices de Sabero (León) will take place on 28 October.
The visit will showcase an example of technological development and innovation linked to the just transition and will include opportunities for participants to meet and network.
